Flexible dieting is all the craze in the fitness world these days, but it’s not just for athletes anymore! What exactly is flexible dieting, you ask? Well, it’s pretty much being able to eat whatever you want, so long as your portions stay within your protein, fat, and carbohydrate (macro-nutrient) guidelines. Food For Fuel was founded on the concept of flexible dieting and over the past year and a half, we have expanded our knowledge and services and offer two nutrition programs that will work for anyone & everyone! But back to the macros for today’s discussion…
We have found that first time flexible dieters who begin counting macros often abuse the freedom by loading their diets with fast food, pastries, supplements, etc. because no one has told them better! We have enough sense (and the education) to inform our clients of the large importance of the often forgotten micro-nutrients (these are the vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that are essential for optimal health). We encourage a diet first based on earth grown nutrients to ensure you are getting everything your body needs to function properly, followed by the encouragement of adding in the occasional treat!
Take it from us, there is no way we would be sane if we deprived ourselves of our most loved treats. Coach Dana is pregnant and had strong cravings for sweet & sour candies AND chips & dip. Please tell me what kind of maniac tells a fit, pregnant woman that she can’t indulge in her cravings?! Coach Amanda has a long time love for cookies and ice cream and if you see her freezer and cabinets, they are always stocked! Our point here is, we want you to eat the foods you love- but we also want your body to be healthy! We believe that healthy is a combination of earth grown nutrients, plus treats!
So go ahead, create the meals you love! Just make sure to first eat lots of veggies, fruits, lean meats, & healthy fats. But most importantly, learn to love food as it was intended…FUEL!
